If you are considering a Reclaim Energy Co2 hot water heat pump for your home or business you are on to a good thing. When we install these systems people always exclaim how quiet the unit is and how quick the water heats up. We like to say with these heat pumps it does what it says on the box .
Split style heat pump
A split style heat pump is a system that consists of a tank and seperate heat pump unit. In Co2 hot water heat pumps the cold water is taken from the bottom of the tank, heated in the heat pump and then returned to the top, ready for you to use.
Due to the Reclaim Energy Co2 hot water heat being a split style system we need to consider the area the unit is being installed and make sure everything fits.
Component sizing
With the Reclaim Energy Co2 hot water heat pump with have two main dimensions to consider, the heat pump unit and the tank. Due to the sometimes mixed water chemistries experienced in South Australia and the possible detrimental effect that can have on stainless steel tanks we generally provide systems with a glass lined enamel tank.
Below we have put together an overview of the heat pump and glass lined tank sizes. This shows the physical size of the seperate components. You will see the sizes for the 4 available tanks sizes 160, 250, 315 and 400 litre tanks.

Heat pump installation spacing
For a heat pump to work correctly and also for any future servicing requirements we need to make sure that certain spacing requirements are met.
On the image on the right you will see the clearances from the back and sides of the heat pump unit and also the clearance from the front.
For a heat pump to operate correctly it needs to have space for correct airflow. If the space is too small the cold air can short cycle reducing the units effeciency.
Layout options
With the Reclaim Energy Co2 hot water heat pump being a split style heat pump system it allows for a great flexibility of the seperate heat pump and tank, Below are a few options in regards to layout:
- The heat pump installed on either the left or right hand side of the tank,
- The heat pump wall mounted due to limited space or to clear other equipment,
- The heat pump mounted outside on a wall or on the roof and the
With the flexibility of the system we can also have a distance between the heat pump and tank of up to 5 meters vertically and 10 meters horizontally.
